THE TEACHERS ARE ALL VERY NICE AND SEEM TO TEACH VERY WELL!

the majority of pupils are from good decent backgrounds.
My child is in a safe and friendly environment and learning well.
Extra curricular activities Approachable staff
There always seems to be a friendly atmosphere and the children seem very happy about attending school. The Headmaster is always present at both school start and finishing times and knows all of the children by name.
Our daughter has been at Gildersome Primary since Sept 2008 and we have so far found the staff friendly and helpful. The Friday activities are a very good idea and so is the shared reading allowing parents to go into school to read to their child.
Learning difficulties are well resourced, children at the school are generally happy, and the school provides a good grounding for future education.
It's emphasis on standards supported by a very wide range of activities for children
Relaxed, approachable management. Certainly appears not to tolerate any form of bullying. This is extremely important when sending your most precious child to someone else's care.Balanced workload to encourage learning, not overwelm young children. Diverse activities day with good choice. Most importantly - Teachers who care!
The manners of children seem to be good, ive seen no bad behaviour or bad language of yet. The staff are friendly and approachable.
How the different year groups mix with each other. My child is in reception but knows as is known by name by older children. The school seems to be very friendly and children seem to be be polite and caring towards each other. The Friday activities are also enjoyed by my child and the choice is varied.

Friday activities is an excellent way to encourage and develop other skills. The sticker charts in reception are motivational. The way that it is encouraged that the pupils mix with the whole class.
I like the Friday activity programme. It encourages children to do/try things they probably wouldn't normally do. Most of the teachers are friendly and smiling. The attendance certificates are very good as it will encourage children to want to go to school.
The range of activities they can do
The activities provided for the children are excellent. The after school clubs are also fantastic! The teachers are very approachable and treat my children fairly.

Very caring nature of staff. Opportunities for pupils to work with those from other years during Friday activities.
It is close to our home.
The children and staff all seem to get along
I always feel the teachers know each child individually, and this then enables them to bring out the best in them. I also like the fact that the headteacher is always near the gates at opening and closing time.
All the children seem happy. The teaching staff care about the children and get involved in the local community ie. attending outside school events in the village. ( Scarecrows/Xmas lights switch on etc)
Friendliness and approachability of staff. Emphasis on good all round education rather than pressure to make grades to meet targets for school.
Encourages my child to become an independant thinker and work for himself.

17. What would you like to change in the school?
I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE A BREAKFAST CLUB LIKE OTHER SCHOOLS WHERE THEY CAN COME TO SCHOOL FROM 8.OOAM.ALSO MORNING ACTIVITES BEFORE SCHOOL NETBALL,FOOTBALL ETC.ALSO MORE AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITYS.
children should get much more homework.
children should get much more homework.
If I have any complaints, it's that the PTA could do better and be more inventive with the events it stages. Unfortunately, working eveings, limits my involvement. The school website could be improved too. It would be a very good idea to be able to pay for school meals and fees for trips etc. via the internet. In the main though, I am very impressed with the school and my child has settled in very well since September.
There is no strutured homework timetable for years 5 &6. Higher achieving kids are not challenged enough
There seems to be a general assumption that parents don't work and many of the meetings/activities involving parents are during school hours, making it difficult to attend, thus sometimes upsetting children (especially infants) when their parents are unable to participate.
Not so much as a change but something we believe the school should be doing is displaying the menu for the school dinners on a weelkly basis, and putting it on the website, so parents know what their child is eating for their lunch.
Improved facilities ie portakabins and general improvements in the overall appearance of the school.
Improvements to the building - getting rid of the cabins!
This is an excellent school & nothing obvious springs to mind
I feel that the funding that the school gets could be utilised more better, the school class rooms need up-dating and maybe extended. Cloak room(s) need a definate up date even just a repaint in which school pack lunches are stored. The school hall could do with cleaning as the posters on the wall have inch thick dust, which cannot be good for asthma sufferers. It would be nice to know where the funding was being spent as i feel school could benefit from a lot of up-dating, NEW COMPUTERS! as from what i have heard the children have to share a computer. I have heard from a lot of people that laptops have been provided now for schools now and maybe this could be looked into. Also i feel security is lacking i dont think it would be difficult for anyone to get in if they wanted to(which does not fill me with confidence), new doors could be fitted with a code system in place as a bolt is insufficient. Hope this is read by someone at school. Thankyou
School grounds/gardens could do with a tidy up. Whilst I appreciate that this is a time/money issue and nothing to do with the teachers, I am sure parents would be prepared to get involved if a weekend was taken to have a general tidy up.
Get rid of the green blocks
portacabins need updating, you can smell whether your children have spent any time in them during the day on their clothes and belongings
nothing
We are happy with the school. No comment
Nothing
Fairness and equity amongst children
Nothing
Nothing springs to mind.
A less formal regimental approach to parents evenings.
More after school activities for reception classes or some would be nice
School dinners- I wish that the pupils did not choose their own meals; would much prefer that they were given meat and veg- a good hot meal everyday. Most days my son ie eating a meal with no veg.
It would be nice if we could see a weekly menu of the dinners so we know what our children are eating.
In years 5 and 6 core subjects should be streamed so a teacher has a set of 30 children of similar ability and not ALL abilities.
Swimming lessons for the children in years 4,5,6 and not just in the third year. Reading books brought home every day so parents have at least the option to read to their child on a nightly basis.Reading is one of the most important things they do. The portakabins need replacing!
nothing
Homework policy that applies to every class set to student's ability that they can do (mostly) independently
Children should be allowed to wear wrist watches (if they want to.) I wish the kids have options on the type of pumps they wear
Demolish the portakabins!
Nothing. My daughter is very happy at Gildersome Primary
Stronger discipline on school uniform
Worked examples and explained methods for homework. My methods are old and confuse my daughter when I try to help her.
Having a nursery would be helpful.
The prefabs at the back need refurbishing and make the school look scruffy.
1. Concentrate on the children's behaviour and introduce discipline instead of concentrating on what is politically correct. 2. More contact with parents without us feeling uncomfortable. Respect for children and parents. 3. Listen to parents' comments. 3.
Nothing
Parts of the school are in disrepair i.e Porta - cabins and need urgent attention or replacing. Some parents seem to think they have a right to drive into school, this needs to be stopped. Large gates should be closed from 08.45 or once teachers have arrived. During outside activities hels at the school( i.e football matches/practise visitors to the school park on the grass verge up the drive. Signs should be erected to request no-parking. This just churns up the grass and makes it muddy and unsightly. Another option would be to plant trees or place rocks etc along the grass to prevent this. As it is not their school some people don't care!
More outdoor play equipment for children at play time.
My child may have been challenged by more homework this year, we feel he has recieved very little compared to our other younger child in school.
My child may have been challenged by more homework this year, we feel he has recieved very little compared to our other younger child in school.
I would like to see more things in the playground to promote more activity in the breaks.
Over the last few years, Gildersome has seen an increase in community spirit and related activity. The school could potentially tap into this and widen the range of fund raising activities. This could be one a term and possibly include a bonfire night celebration (which Guldersome does not currently have), car boot sales, family barbecues, school discos etc. Although this suggestion is directed more towards the PTA.
More regular feedback how child is doing. More parental involvement. Felt children watching movies in school time particularly poor, whilst other options like photography/tennis/ horse riding excellent ideas. Increased input for high achievers. Adherence to water and fruit break policies.
More progress made in children - especially those who could be doing much better. Homework is set that my child struggles to do and has become very disruptive and upsetting as we feel she must be able to complete it herself- not have her parents tell her the right answers.
I am informed that lunchtimes can be a rushed affair and children are told to 'huury up'. Perhaps a little more patience in this area.
